The route maps are in progress
27/06/2025
As outlined last week, The Promise Scotland is working with partners and stakeholders over the summer and into the autumn to develop and populate the 25 route maps for each of the five themes within Plan 24-30. The update covered the importance of the route maps; how they will help to keep the promise, and the principles that the work will follow. This update goes into further detail about the route maps, the engagement processes to develop them and how route maps will evolve through to 2030.
Each of the 25 route maps is linked to destination statements— which set out what keeping the promise by 2030 looks like. The route maps will illustrate:
-
The bridges and barriers to change
-
The current work underway to keep the promise
-
The actions needed in future years to keep the promise, and who must take this forward.
Plan 24-30’s route maps are already live and are being continuously reviewed and updated to capture the actions that are already progressing. For example, the latest updates were made following the launch of the Children (Care, Care Experience and Services Planning) (Scotland) Bill last week.
The next step is identifying the milestones up to 2030, which will make clear who is leading, what the action is and when work will begin. They will provide clarity on the national direction across the different areas to keep the promise.
Where there are existing national plans or priorities, the route maps will help bring these together. This helps us see how different areas of work connect and support each other.
There are interdependencies between the route maps and The Promise Scotland team is surfacing and asking organisations and groups to consider where their commitments are dependent on progress in another part of the ‘system’ (e.g. the passing or implementation of legislation, the level of available funding increasing).
Right now, The Promise Scotland is working closely with system leaders to develop route maps in: education; scrutiny and inspection; health; data; moving on; and lifelong support. With work underway or planned to work on the route maps for: justice, family support and where children live.
The Plan 24-30 route maps will help everyone stay focused and accountable. They make it easier to understand what’s happening, when, and who is responsible. Most importantly, they will make the route towards keeping the promise by 2030 clearer.
Further updates will follow as the route maps develop. For more information, please contact plan2430@thepromise.scot
