In 2023/24, 72.4% of "looked after" pupils in their final year progressed to a positive destination (which includes education, training, voluntary work, employment and personal skills development) 9 months after leaving school, up from 71.1% the previous year. This compares with 93.1% of all school leavers. Rates have remained relatively stable since 2018/19.

The gap between care experienced and all school leavers has narrowed over time in terms of their follow-up destination.
