Incidences of physical restraint in school care accommodation services increased between 2023 and 2024.

The Care Inspectorate has reported that in the past year, there has been some confusion around reporting expectations for education settings that are connected to care settings, which is likely to have driven this increase.

This year, the Care Inspectorate have work collaboratively with the Scottish Physical Restraint Action Group (SPRAG) to co-create guidance for the residential and education sector to aid decision making when reporting incidents.
